Why is it Better to Elope?

There are certainly no shortage of ways to get married. Some couples love giant and elaborate church weddings, others prefer more modest locations. Some are big, some are small, some are wild, and some are quaint. However, more couples than ever are choosing to forgo traditional weddings altogether in favor of elopement.

Why is it better to elope rather than go through with a typical wedding? There are numerous valid reasons, from dealing with relatives and the headaches of family drama, to expenses and planning. In fact, nearly every aspect of a wedding is somewhat different when getting eloped, and many couples think this is for the better.

The fact is, weddings can be cumbersome. There is a massive amount of planning involved, money that has to be budgeted meticulously, a dozen different services to keep track of, and of course there’s the catering to think about.

Eloping takes many of these issues and either reduces them to the point where they are no longer bothersome, or eliminates them completely.

So why is it better to elope? Let’s take a look at some of the biggest reasons here.

Eloping is More Adaptable

It’s far easier to adjust your plans on the fly with an elopement than with a wedding. Due to the complexity of the planning and multitude of people involved, adjusting wedding plans at the zero hour is nigh impossible. Most of the time if something goes wrong at the last minute right before a wedding, everyone just has to make do. There’s very little room for changing plans at the last minute in case you change your mind about something or want to squeeze something in.

Eloping on the other hand is fluid. By definition, they are more spontaneous, adaptable, and fun. If you suddenly learn about a great restaurant in the area and want to go there after your ceremony, no one is stopping you. You’re not tied down by tradition and huge crowds that have come to expect certain things such as a planned afterparty.

Much Less Stress

One of the biggest issues with traditional weddings are the stress levels that come with it. Couples routinely complain about how stressed out they get in the planning and implementation stages of wedding ceremonies. There are literally “wedding therapists” who specialize in helping couples cope with the stresses of planning their own wedding. How absurd is that?

Couples everywhere are realizing that their happiness and peace of mind are worth a whole lot more than some tradition, and would much rather opt for a more fun, romantic, and spontaneous kind of ceremony that focuses more on the love and less on the tuxedo rentals and decorations.

Without the stress factor, the ceremony becomes far easier to plan. It becomes and exciting joy rather than a burdensome pain, and this is also reflected in the ceremony itself. Elopements tend to be simplistic, romantic, and lively. There is very little room for stress, because there’s not much to even think or stress about.

 Elopements Are More Affordable

Unless you really want to have a super fancy excursion, your elopement isn’t going to put you out tens of thousands of dollars. Elopements in general run far cheaper than weddings, which average around $30,000 in the United States. It’s not unheard of to take out “wedding loans” just to pay for everything.

This sounds like the worst possible way to start off a marriage.

Instead of taking out a loan or shelling out tens of thousands of dollars, you can simply get eloped and only spend a few thousand to have the getaway of your dreams and marry your better half at the same time.

Elopements are typically more affordable because there are just less things to spend crazy amounts of money on. You’re not catering for 100 people. You’re not decorating a wedding hall. You’re not buying a massive cake. There’s far fewer people that you have to spend money on, much less fluff added to the ceremony, and in general everything is more manageable.

There’s nothing wrong with splurging on your big day, that’s expected. But with the way the economy has been, couples now more than ever understand the value of being smart with money and would prefer not to start their marriage off in unnecessary debt.

Where money is spent on an elopement, it’s typical far more useful and fun. Such as fancy restaurants, the gorgeous hotel you’ll inevitably be staying at, seeing the sights and having a blast while you’re away in an exotic location. An elopement is like a honeymoon and wedding rolled into one with a fraction of the expenses and headaches. This is a major reason why so many couples are getting eloped: it just makes sense.

It’s All About the Romance

Perhaps the final point to note about eloping is that couples love how it focuses on the romance. Sure, weddings have a lot of anticipation and surprise sort of baked into the way things are set up, but often couples begrudge the lack of intimacy and time spent with their significant other on their big day.

Often, too much of your wedding day is spent doing a ton of stuff no one wants to do. Even after you’re officially married, you’re almost expected to kind of cater to family and friends for hours. This can be fun for some, but many couples would prefer more time alone or something more exciting.

When you get eloped, you can focus on what really matters: the marriage! There’s not a hundred different things to worry about. You can take more time to ease into the ceremony, see your significant other before the ceremony and spend your time afterwards however you want it. You don’t even need to fly out for your honeymoon because you’re already there. When you get eloped, you don’t have to worry about a flight or going through any hotel check-ins or anything like that. You’re already settled into your beautiful location of choice and the only thing left to do is live it up as a married couple!

There are so many reasons why eloping is the way to go for more and more couples. If you feel like this simpler, more romantic kind of ceremony is for you, you’re not alone! Start planning your elopement today by getting in touch with me here.
